On September 27(Beijing Time), The IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group of China announced the newest tests results of China’s 5G technology R&D trial Phase III at the 3rd 5G Innovation and Development Summit.
Up to now, Phase III NSA (Non-Stand Alone) trials have been completed, and the SA (Stand Alone) trials process has also exceeded the halfway.
It is reported that the participants in Phase III of the trials include Ericsson, Huawei, Nokia Shanghai Bell, Samsung, China Information and Communication Technologies Group Corporation (CICT), ZTE and other six system manufacturers, Qualcomm, Intel, UNISOC and other chip manufacturers, as well as Rohde & Schwarz (R&S), KEYSIGHT and other instrument manufacturers.
According to reports, the NSA trials in the Phase III covered indoor trial, core network function, base station function, and outfield trial. Huawei, ZTE, and CICT completed NSA 3.5GHz and 4.9GHz frequency bands trials. Nokia Shanghai Bell and Ericsson completed most of the trial, and Samsung started to launch the trial.
SA trials were involved in core network functions, base station functions, outfield trial, and interoperability trial. Huawei, CICT, Ericsson, and ZTE completed the SA core network tests, Huawei also completed the SA base station function test. In addition, CICT, Ericsson, and ZTE basically completed the base station function test.
The Phase III results demonstrate that China's NSA system trials have been completed, and the SA system trials process exceeds mid-point, which has effectively promoted the maturity of 5G technology and equipment. The next step of IMT-2020 (5G) promotion group is to accelerate the promotion of system equipment, chips, terminal and instrument development and optimization, and to conduct comprehensive interoperability tests of system and chip system terminals.
The forum also released the 5G Bearer Network Architecture and Technical Solution White Paper and 5G UAV Application White Paper.
